Elevating Your Family Photos

Prepping for your photoshoot is overwhelming sometimes. Our guide shows you how to properly prep for your upcoming session while also considering items that will help elevate the photoshoot outcome to show your story. I’ve built a comprehensive list of things you can do to make your session a tremendous success.

OUTFITS

Working with a photographer that suggest and aids you in the coordination of your outfits is essential. Having a photographer paint the vision for your family photos through wardrobe assistance helps you have peace of mind before entering the session that your family will look their best so you can embrace the moments being made while together instead of worrying you didn't prep correctly. Once you know what you should wear, make sure to assemble your wardrobe a few days before your session. Get items laundered, ironed, and anything else needed so that you’re not rushing at the last minute.

hair / makeup

If you’re getting your hair and makeup professionally done for your shoot, it’s worth doing a test run of both.  And if you’re doing it yourself, make sure to practice your portrait hair and make up! There is nothing more stressful for a woman than doing her hair or makeup the day of a session and not liking the outcome. Spending time days prior practicing will aid in the process being faster the day of your session and ensuring your outcome is perfect for your session.

bring necessaties

To elevate your family photos, it is suggested to find things you and your family do naturally together and do those moments in front of your photographer. For instance if you sing and dance that you bring something that will trigger that moment naturally for you and your family. If you like flying kites or riding bikes together, prepping the items to bring with you to your session. I also bring along a prop kit of items mentioned in your questionnaire form, just in case you forget something!

Partner with your photographer

To ensure your photographer and you know your vision or desires it is essential to have extensive communitication with your photographer versus just showing up and hoping the photos turn out the way you are dreaming. It is always a great idea to share photo concepts with your photographer, so you are going for the same result. Pinterest boards are my favorite way to communicate concepts.

And that's a wrap! That’s how to prepare for your photo session to have the best experience and images possible. I tried to make this as comprehensive as possible. I would love to partner with you on your next session.
